The Location:
This position is in
Carlsbad, California
at our corporate headquarters or at our
Las Vegas, Nevada
research campus. We offer a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office (subject to change), provided if metrics such as productivity and the quality of the deliverables are achieved.

Who We Are Looking For
We're seeking an Algorithm Engineer with a passion for solving complex problems in the world of gemology. This role combines technical expertise with creative thinking, focusing on developing algorithms for 3D geometry, image processing, and computational modeling.
As part of our team, you'll work on creating digital tools that analyze and showcase the beauty of diamonds. Your work will involve crafting algorithms that enhance our understanding and appreciation of gem aesthetics.

What You Will Work On
As an Algorithm Engineer at GIA, you will:
Develop original algorithms for diamond geometry modeling, cut classification, and visualizations, using advanced mathematical frameworks from our research team. Serve as a subject matter expert in image processing, AI, and computational geometry, driving innovation in cut grading and optimization. Collaborate with mathematicians, researchers, and engineers to deliver algorithms that directly influence how diamonds are evaluated worldwide. Present your work to peers, industry leaders, and at conferences, representing GIA’s commitment to research excellence. Explore new ways to combine computational precision with the artistry of gem design.
Who You Will Work With
You’ll work side by side with GIA’s Senior Director of Diamond Cut Research, Senior Research Mathematician, and cross-functional R&D, IT, and Data Science teams. Together, you’ll push the boundaries of gemological science and technology.
What You Bring
A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is required, along with 5-7+ years of relevant experience. A master’s degree in a scientific field is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will also be considered. Expertise in 3D computational geometry, complex algorithm design, and math-intensive software development. Strong proficiency in C# and Python. Proven ability to collaborate across technical disciplines. A passion for learning, innovation, and creating solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional. Interest in art and visual aesthetics a plus.

Pay Range: $128,000-$166,000
The compensation range for this role is based on the employee’s work location or the corporate location in which the candidate will report to (Carlsbad or Las Vegas).
