Under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor and Senior Services Program Supervisor, plans, coordinates, develops, administers, implements and evaluates organized recreation programs, classes and activities (including adaptive recreation) for people with developmental, physical and/or cognitive disabilities within the community. This position is a split position and supports programming for both the Recreation Services Department and the Senior Services Department. Principal Duties

Coordinates, develops, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of recreation classes, programs and events for people with developmental, physical and/or cognitive disabilities within the community. Responsible for organizing, managing and coaching a variety of Special Olympic Sports teams. Establishes relationships with Special Olympics Colorado staff. Works closely with Special Olympics Colorado Northeast Regional coordinator to complete athlete medical entries and paperwork as needed for both individual and team competitions. Required to transport participants to and from approved competitions and events in a City vehicle. Maintain awareness of new developments in the therapeutic recreation field; incorporate new developments appropriate into programs. Identifies community and customer needs and interests, assesses program responsiveness to these interests, initiates and develops new program elements and/or curriculum, including partnerships with other community based organizations. Coordinates instructional programs; including registration, record keeping, evaluating and scheduling. Coordinate instructor and/or contractor training, evaluating and scheduling. Schedule and coordinate facility use and purchase or obtaining supplies and equipment. Coordinates and/or performs program pre-planning duties for assigned programs, classes and activities to include written projections of costs and fees. Analyzes and makes reports of post-program budgetary outcomes. Administers and reviews program participant evaluations for assigned programs. Analyzes and uses findings to increase program and instructor effectiveness. Plan, organize, implement and evaluate special events in individual area and assist with divisional special events. Interviews, selects, trains, schedules, supervises, mentors, and evaluates staff, contractors and volunteers. Coordinates and supervises program sites. Assume the duties and responsibilities of direct reports as applicable and necessary (temporary and/or benefitted). Plan and conduct regular staff meetings and/or trainings when necessary. Maintains work records. Responsible for proper use and care of materials, equipment, supplies for programming. May be responsible for facility care and upkeep. Maintain cordial and professional public relations with citizens calling or utilizing the City facilities. Enforce policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using recreation facilities. Promotes and markets programs by preparing marketing and promotional materials and schedules for publication in brochure and other media with an end result of increasing program participation and awareness of the City of Longmont programs and facilities. May contact media and or maintain Web and social media content. Coordinate programs, facilities and events with community groups, businesses and organizations. May also coordinate with local schools. Provide assistance in the development, oversight and monitoring of assigned budget; participate in eliciting community funding agency financial support for program including grant opportunities; monitor and track expenditures to ensure compliance with program budgets. Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and respectful service, and de-escalate stressful situations. Make budget recommendations and make purchases for programs, events and facilities. Maintain records of expenditures. May be responsible for opening and closing of facilities; including seasonal opening and closings. Qualifications

Any combination of experience and education equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field plus two or more years of experience in planning, implementing and supervising therapeutic recreation programming. Minimum of one year of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills and training in supervision. Special Qualifications

Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Employee is responsible for determining time, place and sequence of actions to be taken. Requires upper body strength to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed. Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed and ability to utilize all required safety equipment. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Current Certifications in First Aid and CPR/AED, and Concussion Training or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Working knowledge of Recreation registration, reservation and POS system software. PCI Compliance training. Valid Colorado driver’s license required.
