Position Title: Fuels Crew Member
Reports to: Squad Boss
Department: Wildland
Supervisory Responsibility: None
2026 Pay Range: $21 to $27.30

About Us Evergreen Fire/Rescue, founded in 1948, provides around the clock emergency medical, rescue, and fire suppression services along with community risk reduction services to nearly 26,000 residents across more than 125 square miles. Led by a Fire Chief and the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District, EFR consists of six divisions: Administration, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Operations, Community Risk Reduction, Maintenance, and Wildland. The Volunteers and Employees of each division are committed to providing exceptional service to their community of residents, business owners, employees, and visitors.
About the Position The Fuels Crew Members work on full scale mitigation projects throughout the district, and slash pile construction/burning, respond to wildland fire calls both in and out of district and participate in wildland fire training and best mitigation practices. Work begins April 2026.
Essential Functions Be a key member in the mitigation program and working mitigation projects throughout the district
Work with Chainsaws, wildfire engines, pumps, hand tools.
Working on full scale mitigation projects, slash chipping program, pile construction/burning, involvement with building an RX fire program.
Respond to wildland fire calls in and out of district as requested and participating in wildland fire trainings.

Leadership: Demonstrates initiative and role model behavior, contributing with honesty, respect, and integrity. Supports vision and values in daily work and actions.
Teamwork: Takes initiative and participates willingly by supporting team decisions, assisting other team members, and doing his/her share of the work to meet goals and deadlines. Shares all relevant and useful information. Displays appropriate behavior and contributes to creating a positive team spirit.
Experience and certifications required for success
18 years old or older
High School Diploma or GED
Colorado Driver’s License with no major violations
ICS 100, 200,700,800 (or within 30 days of employment)
Experience with a chainsaw, chipping, full scale mitigation projects, pile construction/burning, initial attack, extended attack and mop-up on wildland fires
Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) S-130/S-190, L-180
Highly Recommended Education and Experience
S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws highly preferred.

Ability to follow directions and be self-motivated.
Excellence at managing expectations and risks, and proactive communication
Adaptability, resourcefulness, solution focus, and a drive for continuous improvement
A positive attitude that includes a passion for learning
A high level of physical fitness (ability to pass the NWCG Arduous Pack Test) and strong work ethic
Be a positive representative of the mitigation program when interacting with the public
Working Conditions Physical Demands- This position requires the arduous physical pack test and other physical activities associated with fuels mitigation and wildland firefighting.
Compensation and Position Information Job Classification: Non-Exempt
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $21 to $27.30
