Business Development Specialist
The business development coordinator contributes to the growth and development of the Economic Development Department's strategic plan, goals and objectives for the City of Laredo. The role involves collecting detailed information about current and prospective businesses and projects to identify growth opportunities. The ideal candidate stays updated with market trends that can help enhance existing businesses and attract new business to Laredo.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates and implements business development and recruitment strategies to identify current and new markets to enter.
Performs community outreach to identify areas and industries with opportunities for economic growth.
Conducts economic and market data research to identify new business development opportunities.
Develops and maintains effective relationships with established business and local industry associations via email, phone, and in-person.
Supports and facilitates development and execution of marketing plans.
Assists in the preparation of presentations for current business and new prospects.
Tracks local economic activity and provides feedback to the department.
Works with other departments to ensure alignment of economic development, department goals, and objectives and strategies as set by upper management.
Conducts initial financial analysis to identify economic & fiscal impacts and shares feedback on the potential impact, risks, and uncertainties associated with the proposed business development plans, strategies, or individual projects.
Works in collaboration with the department divisions and local industry associations to support recruitment programs and strategies.
Performs on-site and/or desk audits of applicants of economic development incentives.
Assists in annual compliance reports of active incentive programs.
Conducts general duties as related to the economic development department initiatives, programs and strategies as directed.
Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to use computer hardware, various software programs and technologies, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to speak before public groups and make presentations.
Ability to operate general office equipment and computers.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
Ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately written and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to deal with other employees and members of the public tactfully and courteously.
Ability to maintain valid a Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.
Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints.
Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English and Spanish language.
Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.

Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Finance and Accounting, Marketing, or Business Management.
At least five (5) years of experience in business development, marketing & sales, financial management, or related fields.
Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained prior to employment.
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment. Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
