Position Overview The Designer will learn to understand and identify building hazards, select system components, and develop design layouts for all types of building construction. The work includes generating and managing detailed fire protection system designs that meet the applicable codes and standards, creation of shop drawings, performing hydraulic calculations, product selection and submittal documents.
District Overview Aero Automatic Sprinkler Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit, is one of the largest fire sprinkler contractors in the Southwest. Founded in 1985 in Phoenix, AZ, Aero offers a variety of services including design, 3‑D modeling, installation and more. We are committed to all aspects of the fire protection business: sprinklers, service inspection and testing, and fire alarm. Aero handles all sizes of work from service calls and inspections to full installations.
Location The Fire Sprinkler Designer 1 Position is based out of main office in Phoenix, Arizona or our area office in Denver, Colorado.
Responsibilities
Design automatic fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, foam, and fire pumps)
Compile and prepare plan submittals (shop drawings) and material submittals for review by architects, engineers, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction
Coordinate sprinkler design with existing structure and other MEP subcontractors
Communicate with Sales, Estimating and other departments to optimize design efficiency for fabrication and installation of systems
Perform hydraulic calculations for fire sprinkler systems
Detail the design for fabrication and prepare installation drawings
Prepare “as‑built” drawings for in‑house archive and client files
Other job duties as assigned
Qualifications
Currently pursuing or a recent graduate in a Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Engineering or Construction Management, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
High level of self‑discipline, motivation, and ability to operate in a team environment
Attention to detail to get the job done right the first time
Sound organizational and time‑management skills
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide‑ranging climates and environments.
Other Requirements
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
