Position Summary The Ironworker Leadman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, lay-out, installation and alignment in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards and codes. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the journeyman and craftsmen under supervision and motivate the crew to accomplish the work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

Understand and respond to safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smoke, warning tags, sirens).

Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures safely.

Understand, train, and implement 100% tie off/fall protection.

Understand the Mastec Safety Manual and policies, including Fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.

Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by the crew on all equipment used that day.

Follow the Mastec planning/JSA process for the crew; review and provide feedback and training.

Support/perform additional safety practices: supervisor audits, craft observations, SLT meetings if requested.

Report all safety events and near misses to the supervisor.

Inspect subordinate crews’ work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; identify deficiencies and take corrective action.

Ensure by personal inspection that correct construction procedures are followed and work complies with plans and specifications; ensure crew is qualified and holds the appropriate certifications/licenses.

Qualifications Education and work experience requirements:

4 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

NCCER Certification/License (preferred)

Some supervisory experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.

Participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors on site.

Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Basic arithmetic and measurement applications as needed for weights and volumes.

Common sense and ability to follow written or oral instructions.

Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow procedures.

Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain in-depth relations with team members and supervisors.

Physical Demands

Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.

Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb as needed.

Stamina to perform tasks repetitively for several hour intervals.

Uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant weather and site changes.

Moderate exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noises.

Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required (safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).

Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights with fall protection.

Visual and auditory requirements to perform duties safely and accurately.

Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movements; good balance at heights.

Hours This is a full-time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel Travel required up to 90%. Presence directly on the project site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
