The Asphalt Plant Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of asphalt plant equipment. This role performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, supporting overall production by addressing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, conducting inspections, and minimizing downtime.

Wage Range $30–$32 per hour, dependent upon experience.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspections on all asphalt plant equipment and systems.

Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues with plant equipment.

Repair or replace defective parts such as motors, bearings, belts, pumps, conveyors, and other plant components.

Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations when performing maintenance tasks.

Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately in maintenance logs and records.

Assist in the scheduling of major maintenance projects, shutdowns, and overhauls with plant management.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools and parts.

Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns to minimize plant downtime and support continuous production.

Collaborate with other plant personnel to identify and implement improvements to equipment reliability and efficiency.

Order and maintain inventory of necessary spare parts and supplies.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED required.

Technical degree or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field preferred.

Experience in the building materials or construction industry preferred.

Driver’s License; Class A CDL with DOT Medical Card preferred.

Work Requirements

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with maintenance management systems preferred.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.

Report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations.

Knowledge, Skill and Other Requirements

Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in asphalt plant operations.

Skill in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing plant equipment and machinery.

Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.

Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Demonstrate a hands‑on, collaborative approach and work well in a team.

Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately.

Demonstrate comfort in communicating with supervisors and team members on maintenance issues.

Ability to summarize maintenance data and communicate effectively to support decision‑making.

Physical Requirements

Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.

Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and reports.

May require sitting, standing, bending, climbing ladders, and walking for extended periods of time.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly; and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in environments with noise, dust, and moving equipment.
