Patient Benefits Representative - Remote The US Oncology Network is seeking a dedicated Patient Benefits Representative to support the Revenue Cycle Department at Texas Oncology. This full‑time, remote role serves the entire state of Texas and operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Overview The US Oncology Network, in partnership with Texas Oncology, delivers high‑quality, evidence‑based oncology care across the state. As a patient–benefits specialist, you will educate patients about insurance coverage, assess financial eligibility, and facilitate access to assistance programs, ensuring seamless transitions from treatment planning to billing.

Responsibilities

Obtain and verify patient insurance coverage and demographics before treatment begins, clearly explaining coverage, benefits, co‑pays, deductibles, and out‑of‑pocket costs.

Assess a patient’s ability to meet expenses, discuss payment arrangements, and educate patients on available financial assistance programs.

Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms based on diagnosis, projected coverage, and assistance eligibility.

Prepare and submit appropriate reimbursement and liability forms for patient review and signature, forwarding completed documents to the billing office.

Obtain insurance pre‑authorization or referral approval codes from the Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment.

Review patient account balances and coordinate with the front desk to schedule appointments as needed.

Ensure patient co‑pay amounts are accurately entered into the system or communicated to the front desk for collection.

Verify and update patient demographics and insurance coverage at each visit in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Maintain current knowledge of financial assistance options, develop relationships with external program providers, and identify new sources of assistance.

Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines regarding patient records.

Maintain updated manuals, logs, and forms; perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications Level 1

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum three (3) years of experience as a patient pre‑services coordinator or equivalent.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and relevant computer systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of CPT coding and HHS coding application.

Excellent verbal communication skills with accurate use of terminology.

Completion of required e‑learning courses within 90 days of hire.

Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 requirements)

Associate degree in Finance, Business, or four years of revenue‑cycle experience preferred.

Minimum three (3) years pre‑services coordinator experience and two (2) years of patient benefits experience required.

Proven knowledge and application of insurance coverage benefits and terminology.

Physical Demands Essential functions include nationwide coverage support; requires sitting, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and correct vision and hearing.

Work Environment Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and related conditions typical of an oncology clinic. The position includes in‑person interactions with co‑workers, management, and clients; occasional travel by automobile may be required.
