Continuous Improvement Specialist (Internal) Nammo Defense Systems, Inc., a defense contractor, is the primary USA operation of the Nammo Group (Nammo AS). Nammo Defense Systems Inc. (NDS) develops, manufactures, and supports Shoulder Launched Munitions (SLMs), energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aerospace structures.

Job Overview Under the direction of the Lean Six Sigma Leader, the Continuous Improvement Specialist designs, enhances, and manages systems within the organization to optimize efficiency, productivity, and quality. The role involves analyzing existing processes, implementing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, and developing strategies to reduce waste, improve workflows, and sustain operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze existing production and transactional processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and quality.

Apply Lean principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen events, and 5S to streamline operations and eliminate waste.

Design and optimize workspace layouts to improve flow, reduce constraints, and enhance ergonomics.

Collect, interpret, and analyze operational data to support data-driven decision-making.

Assist with implementation of quality control measures, perform statistical and root cause analyses, and drive corrective actions to maintain product and service quality.

Lead or support cross-functional project teams executing process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma tools.

Facilitate or support Lean and Six Sigma training sessions aligned with company goals.

Promote and ensure safe work processes, identifying and mitigating potential risks.

Develop and maintain clear, accurate process documentation, including flowcharts, capacity studies, and standard work instructions.

Cooperation The Continuous Improvement Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather insights, identify improvement opportunities, communicate findings and recommendations effectively to all levels of the organization.

Level of Decision Making The Continuous Improvement Specialist operates under the general guidance of the Lean Six Sigma Leader while maintaining autonomy to identify, recommend, and initiate improvement opportunities that align with company objectives and performance goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing

Minimum of 1 year of experience executing Continuous Improvement projects

Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools such as Standard Work, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Statistical Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis

Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration across diverse teams

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within defined scope, schedule, and quality parameters

Strong analytical, investigative, and project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functional areas

Commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standards

Ability to gain BATF approval

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related field

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification

Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools

Competencies

Working Conditions Full-time, on-site position. Limited travel may be required. Approximately 40% of time spent at a desk using a computer. Approximately 60% of time spent on the production floor, requiring safety glasses, protective footwear, and explosive handlers' garments as needed. May involve working in varied manufacturing environments and conditions. This position may require travel on an as-needed basis. This position may require working in diverse settings and conditions.
