We operate on a hybrid schedule with four in‑office days per week (Monday–Thursday) to foster creativity, innovation, communication, and relationship‑building.

Job Description The Advising and Retention Specialist is responsible for promoting student success and providing comprehensive support through accurate and responsive advisement in academic advising, registration, financial aid, and healthcare compliance/practicum. This role works with the Student Support Liaison to ensure seamless communication, timely issue resolution, and a consistent student experience.

Responsibilities

Assist students with appropriate course registration and ensure students understand degree and practicum application requirements.

Advocate for students’ academic, financial, and healthcare compliance advising needs, proactively monitoring progress and implementing strategies that promote academic success.

Partner with the Student Support Liaison to provide coordinated support and maintain a consistent student experience.

Advise students on university policies, self‑service tools, program requirements, and related academic, financial aid, and healthcare compliance matters.

Provide financial advising throughout the student lifecycle and adjust financial plans as needed.

Utilize systems and student data to confirm and track enrollment, persistence, and graduation information for assigned program/campus locations or multiple locations as necessary. Document all interactions in institutional systems.

Maintain a thorough understanding of Title IV and academic program policies, including federal and state regulations.

Engage students through virtual advising appointments, inbound/outbound calls, e‑mail, SMS, and proactive outreach to deliver first‑contact resolution.

Identify opportunities to implement process and technology solutions that enhance the retention journey.

Collaborate with other departments and functional areas to deliver an optimal student experience.

Respond to student inquiries regarding healthcare compliance requirements and provide accurate guidance.

Support the new student intake process by partnering with enrollment to answer questions, review program costs, and present funding options.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

2+ years of experience in customer service, academic advising, financial aid advising, higher education, or a related field.

Outstanding customer‑service skills.

Ability to work a variety of office hours, including evenings and weekends.

Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and communication skills with superior written and verbal abilities.

Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.

Self‑starter with strong prioritization skills.

Exposure to software and tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Copilot) and experience with Student Information Systems is a plus.

Eligible to obtain and maintain systems access to the NSLDS system (must not be in default of Title IV Federal aid).

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team while interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Additional Information In support of pay‑transparency laws, the expected salary range is $18.70 to $24.52 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on factors such as experience, training, geographic location, licensure, certifications, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibility.
