Overview We’re committed to improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents through high‑quality, comprehensive patient care, medical education, scientific research, and child and family advocacy. As a Child Life Specialist, you will work side‑by‑side with respected leaders in our dynamic Child Life Department, providing support services to pediatric patients based on your expertise in child development and the impact illness, injury, disability, and hospitalization have on this process.
Job Type & Schedule Per Diem. Minimum of 4 shifts per month. Hours are flexible; days are determined based on need and availability. Coverage of the Child Life Department and the Komansky PICU Telehealth Follow‑up Clinic.
Responsibilities
Support the psychosocial needs of children and families.
Provide therapeutic interventions and programming to reduce distress, increase adaptive coping, and protect developmental integrity.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and offer insight into developmental and psychosocial needs.
Deliver targeted support to adult patients with child or family needs requiring child life intervention.
Preferred Criteria
1–2 years paid professional experience with hospitalized children.
Master’s degree in child life or related field.
1 year of child life experience.
Required Criteria
Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or closely related field.
Child Life Council verified internship hours (minimum 480 hours).
Association for Child Life Professionals Certification (earned or within 1 year of hire).
Knowledge of child development, medical terminology, and developmental/therapeutic play.
Understanding of patient‑centered care.
Knowledge of current healthcare environment.
Benefits & Salary Salary Range: $43.00 per Hour. Competitive base pay with benefits designed to support professional growth and personal well‑being.
Location & Logistics All roles require on‑site presence; employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP. NYP will not reimburse travel expenses.
