We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our dynamic revenue-based financing team. This role is essential in evaluating small and medium-sized businesses for funding while maintaining our commitment to responsible lending practices. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, business acumen, and experience in alternative lending or commercial credit analysis.

Key Responsibilities Credit Analysis and Risk Assessment

Analyze and underwrite revenue-based financing applications ranging from $10,000 to $250,000

Review and evaluate business financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, and revenue documentation

Assess business cash flow patterns, seasonality, and growth trends to determine repayment capacity

Evaluate business models, industry risks, and market conditions affecting applicant businesses

Calculate appropriate funding amounts, factor rates, and repayment terms based on revenue analysis

Utilize proprietary scoring models and risk assessment tools to make informed credit decisions

Due Diligence and Documentation

Verify business information, revenue claims, and financial documentation authenticity

Conduct comprehensive background checks on business owners and key personnel

Review legal structure, compliance status, and any outstanding legal issues

Analyze merchant processing statements, e-commerce platforms, and other revenue sources

Evaluate existing debt obligations and their impact on cash flow availability

Document all underwriting decisions with clear rationale and risk mitigation strategies

Portfolio Management and Monitoring

Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends in approval rates, funding performance, and losses

Participate in regular portfolio reviews and risk assessment meetings

Recommend policy adjustments based on performance data and market conditions

Collaborate with collections team on troubled accounts and workout solutions

Assist in developing and refining underwriting guidelines and procedures

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with business development team to provide feedback on deal structure and pricing

Communicate approval decisions, conditions, and declines to relationship managers and clients

Provide guidance to junior underwriters and support staff on complex transactions

Partner with legal and compliance teams on regulatory requirements and documentation standards

Present complex deals to credit committee for approval when required

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field preferred

3+ years of commercial underwriting, credit analysis, or alternative lending experience preferred

Strong understanding of small business financial statements and cash flow analysis

Experience with revenue-based financing, merchant cash advances, or similar alternative lending products preferred

Proficiency in financial modeling and risk assessment techniques

Knowledge of commercial lending regulations and compliance requirements

Advanced Excel skills and experience with underwriting software platforms

Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines

Knowledge of various payment processing platforms and merchant services

Experience with automated underwriting systems and decisioning technology
