Bloomberg Economics is seeking a Senior US Economist to join the Washington, D.C. office on a permanent, full‑time basis. This role is part of a global network of more than 70 economists and analysts, and 200 economics and government reporters — a team uniquely positioned to explain where the world economy stands, where it’s heading, and how policy and geopolitics shape its course.
This position offers the chance to apply cutting‑edge economic analysis to some of the most critical questions in US economy and policy. Working closely with the US team and economists across other country and functional teams, the senior US economist will help strengthen the forecasting framework and analytical tools of the US team while contributing to Bloomberg’s economic insights and storytelling worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Play a critical role in shaping forecasts for the US economy
- Develop rigorous and frontier analytical methods to answer economic questions of our times
- Mentor other economists in the US team
- Produce insightful, timely, and authoritative thematic research
- Collaborate on projects with the broader Bloomberg Economics group, contributing to cross‑country research and providing quotes for news stories
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in forecasting the US economy, either in financial markets, at a central bank, or at the IMF
- Managerial experience, preferably having demonstrated the ability to manage a team of economists
- A PhD in Economics
- Strong econometrics, writing, teamwork, and communication skills
- A self‑starter with proven independent problem‑solving skills who can thrive in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment
- A mindset that blends technical rigor with curiosity, creativity, and a passion for understanding US economic dynamics
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant publications on US macroeconomic issues
- Experience generating content across a variety of formats, ranging from rapid turnaround responses to events to longer‑term collaborative research
Salary Range: $200,000 – $250,000 USD annually + Benefits + Bonus. The referenced salary range is based on Bloomberg's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
