Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Refrigeration Mechanic Foreman, performs skilled work in the Refrigeration Mechanic trades.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate $50.85 per hour

Required Qualifications

(A) Certificate of completion of apprenticeship as a Pipefitter under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program

OR

(B) Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter, with a minimum of 5 years of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Oil Burner Mechanics, and Leadburners.

Valid driver's license.

A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Preferred Qualifications

Journeyman Pipefitter and certified welder, with experience in air-and water-cooled chillers.

Ability to read 2" gauges on various equipment.

Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Communications required in person, by telephone, by email and over campus radio system.

Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and written materials.

Possess mathematical skills to calculate material lists and pricing.

Knowledge sufficient in techniques and uses of various tools associated with Heating Plant duties.

Work Hours Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Functional Expectations

Ability to lift 80 lbs.

Ability to climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 30 feet.

Visual acuity to discern basic wiring and piping color codes.

Ability to gain access to and work in confined spaces.

Ability to speak clearly.

Ability to work overhead and lift weights of 60 lbs overhead for short periods of time.

Ability to work on knees, back or stomach in confined spaces for extended periods of time.

Ability to bend, crouch, and kneel.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
