As a summer camp recreation leader you will be responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for campers. You will lead fun and educational activities, mentor children, foster teamwork, and help create lasting memories for all participants. Your leadership will support children in building new skills, forging friendships, and enjoying a fulfilling summer experience.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Community Services Department operates the Epicenter Sports Complex, RC Family Resource Center, RC Sports Center, Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Goldy S. Lewis Community Center, and James L. Brulte Senior. In addition to the above-listed facilities, more than 30 different parks are open to the community for passive use, park shelters and event rentals, hiking trails, athletic fields, and city‑planned special events. The Department’s guiding principles—Integrity, Humility, Teamwork, Curiosity, Inclusivity, and Zeal—define how we operate and emphasize our commitment to community quality of life through inclusive decision‑making.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AT TEAM RC The Community Services Department (CSD) provides a wide range of programs for the community, including youth summer camps, contracted classes, and several large special events. CSD oversees the daily operations of several city facilities and parks to provide high‑quality passive spaces for the community to gather. Recreation Leaders will be assigned based on your qualifications and interests.
Must have the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide exceptional customer service to campers, parents/guardians, and visitors and ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
Implement daily lesson plans and lead engaging activities, including crafts and camp songs.
Mentor and guide children, encouraging positive behavior, fostering teamwork, and ensuring inclusivity.
Set up for daily activities, ensuring all materials are organized and ready for use.
Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of daily camp activities and the overall success of the program.
Monitor safety and cleanliness, maintaining a safe and organized environment for all.
Create fun, memorable experiences that leave lasting impressions on campers.
ARE YOU QUALIFIED Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience in the implementation of recreation or service programs or activities is desirable, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures for implementing a variety of recreational activities and programs; program content for recreation activities; principles, practices, and techniques of supervision and training. Ability to coordinate, organize, and implement recreation activities, services, and specialized events; research, prepare, and distribute publicity brochures and pamphlets covering new or ongoing programs; supervise and train aides and volunteers.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing and walking. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty‑five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, tables, chairs, and recreation materials. Moving from place to place within the recreation facility; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, and coordination to lead or officiate in athletic activities.
Working Conditions:
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors, or noise. May work outside evenings and weekends.
