Police Officer Trainee #537 (Open Until Filled)
Police Officer Trainee – entry‑level, non‑sworn position in the City of Stockton Police Department. Incumbents are assigned to the Basic Peace Officer Academy and must pass all requirements that lead to the possession of the Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certificate before becoming candidates for the sworn position of Police Officer.

Physical Ability Test (PAT) and PELLETB Written Test Testing will be in the morning, and PELLETB Written will start at 11 am on the test day. Exact arrival times will be included in your confirmation email. You must bring a printed copy of that email to be admitted.
Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited U.S. high school or possession of a GED. Some college coursework preferred.
Age: Must be 20 at application and 21 by appointment.
Driver’s License: Valid California Class C license with satisfactory driving record.
Background Investigation: Must complete polygraph, psychological exam, and California Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
Physical Examination: Drug screen, vision 20/100 uncorrected; 20/30 corrected. Color blindness and hearing outside normal range disqualify.
Availability: Must work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; and drive.
Residency: Must maintain primary residence within 45 minutes of City Hall to respond to emergencies. New hires have up to 3 months to comply.
Additional Responsibilities Incumbents will engage in community‑based policing, familiarization between law enforcement and community residents, and collaborative problem solving. The City requires employees in a public safety classification to respond to emergencies at all times and to undertake an applicable loyalty oath.
