Mechanical Engineer - HVAC/Plumbing
In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in engineering and design of the HVAC and plumbing systems in various types of facilities. The HVAC Team is engaged in the following:
- Design and Construction Activities
- Project Delivery Methods - Traditional Design-Bid-Build and Alternative Conceptual-Bid-Build.
- Facility Types Power Generation buildings, Substations, Oil & Gas structures and Energy Storage buildings.
- Systems HVAC and Plumbing.
- Type of Areas Power Generation Hall, Administrative, Warehouse, Maintenance, Workshop, Laboratory, Chemical Storage & Handling, Electrical Distribution Center, Low & Medium Voltage Switchgear, Pump Areas, Engine Generator, Blowers/Air Compressors, and Flammable & Combustible Liquids Storage.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Studies
- Energy Audit/Efficiency - Engineering studies, system performance reviews, and energy compliance calculations
- Code Review/Application - Facility review for code compliance
- Sustainable Design/LEED - Application of sustainable strategies
The Mechanical Buildings Design Group provides HVAC and plumbing solutions for Black & Veatch's 3 market sectors- Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. Basic knowledge of the following areas:
- NFPA standards
- Computer generated HVAC Heatloads, energy modeling and HVAC equipment sizing
- Technical Submittal reviewing process Bid reviewing process
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Bluebeam Revu
- Person needs to be a LEED AP certified professional experienced in obtaining LEED's certification for industrial buildings.
- Extensive experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers is preferred.
- International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes
- ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards
- ASPE design handbooks
- SMACNA Standards
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.
This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also be require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
