Success Coach (Part-Time)
Job Summary: The part‑time Success Coach for the Red River Promise plays a pivotal role in supporting and guiding current Promise Scholars enrolled at NCTC to achieve academic success, persist in their studies, and successfully transition to four‑year institutions or their chosen career paths. This position focuses on fostering student retention, academic engagement, and seamless transfer through individualized coaching, group sessions, and resource facilitation.
Responsibilities and Duties
Advising – Meet with students using active listening and assessment strategies. Create student success plans tailored to Promise Scholars’ needs, goals, and interests. Discuss course selections, major selection, and scholarship opportunities. Work with scholars and partnering universities in transfer protocols to assist in seamless transition under program guidelines.
Data Reporting – Complete weekly and monthly reports that demonstrate progress toward department and institutional goals, including retention, student registration, and student successes.
Success Coaching – Provide and discuss resources to assist students with academic concerns, course difficulties, academic self‑efficacy, motivation, financial and time management, and program progression. Establish relationships that foster opportunities to share areas of growth and concern while supporting students’ academic goals.
Early Alerts – Follow up with academic concerns submitted by professors and document interactions with students.
Recruiting – Assist the team for large outreach visits, workshops, and presentations for high‑school and community events. Maintain and build relationships with high‑school administration and community. Actively recruit prospective students to the NCTC Promise Program.
Resource Referrals – Compile and maintain updated lists of resources at college and within community that will assist with factors that may impact a student’s education. Guide students to applicable resources as well as community service opportunities for Promise juniors.
Success Seminars and Class Presentations – Create and lead presentations on important success strategies for students.
First Year Experience Course – Develop and deliver a course for new Promise students including lessons on: policies and procedures, NCTC virtual platforms, campus resources, and success strategies. Create engaging assignments to ensure new students are oriented to NCTC.
Professional Development and Trainings – Complete trainings and certifications for student success coaching, career development, and mental health. Also attend student success and student affairs meetings.
Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.
Required Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Required Skills & Abilities
Previous work experience in a higher education environment.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to efficiently multitask.
Service‑oriented demeanor.
Adaptive, creative, and patient.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
Effective communication and ability to build rapport.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn a learning management system (Canvas) and a database management system (Jenzabar).
Proficient and experienced in public speaking and speaking in large groups.
Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast‑changing environment.
Ability to maintain accurate records and input data in a clean, professional manner.
Preferred Skills & Abilities Three (3) years of previous work experience in a higher education environment.
