Description B.L. Harbert International is looking for a Senior Mechanical Estimator to work in our International Construction Group in Birmingham, Alabama. The Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for estimating the following: Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning, Hydronic, Plumbing, Civil Utilities, Fire Protection, Treatment Plants, and Air-side and Wet-side Specialty systems. Applicant would work directly for the Director of Mechanical and with other BLHI estimating staff.
Responsibilities
Attend and participate in pre-bid meetings both within and outside of the organization including periodic international travel
Perform thorough review of available RFP documents and prepare RFI’s for submission to the client
Coordinate with architects and engineers from multiple disciplines to prepare Statements of Work and Technical Narratives
Solicit pricing from vendors for various activities
Respond to vendor inquiries and provide direction as necessary
Perform quantity survey based on documents with varying degrees of completion ranging from programming narratives to 100% Designed and Issued for Construction packages
Evaluate vendor proposals considering, pricing, project location, product availability, product durability, vendor service history and other value based factors
Prepare proposals for mechanical works using in-house standard Excel templates, as well as develop project specific proposals based on RFP bid forms
Participate in pre-submittal cost review meetings
Assist with preparation of departmental budget for mechanical works following project award
Attend and participate in post-award kick-off meetings
Assist project coordinators with early procurement planning
Support Project Coordinators and Site Personnel with change order proposals and negotiation
Identify and evaluate new products and vendors
Maintain historical pricing for materials, equipment and subcontractors
Requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance
10+ years of experience preparing mechanical estimates for various types of construction including: government and military, light industrial, process piping, data center and healthcare
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field (will consider experience in lieu of degree)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with estimating software such as: On Center OST, Fast Est (FastDUCT/ FastPIPE), Trimble MEP or similar programs
Experience with Autodesk Revit and Navisworks
Physical Demands
Have the ability to repetitively use hands to grasp, reach above and below with arms, and work overhead
Have the ability to stoop, bend, walk, kneel, crouch and crawl
Have the ability to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 lbs. of weight in the form of paper, boxes, files, etc.
Have the ability to sit for extended periods with occasional standing required
Possess the manual dexterity to operate office equipment, filing, and perform specialized skills
Possess a high degree of concentration necessary in a busy office environment

Must be able to work in an office environment
Must have flexibility with hours in order to better accommodate business needs
