Under the supervision of the Radiologist and according to established procedures, operates diagnostic X-ray equipment to obtain diagnostic films per Radiologist specifications. Performs diagnostic procedures including fluoroscopy and invasive exams as required, portable imaging in NICU, Pedi, OR, ICU, ER; outpatient X-rays. May perform mobile and surgical procedures to assist with patient diagnosis in surgical suites and patient rooms; fluoroscopic units during specialized procedures for diagnosis and treatment planning (e.g., defecography, barium enema, myelography and GI exams). Responds to emergency situations (contrast reactions and medical emergencies) according to departmental, clinic and hospital policy. Exercises sound clinical judgment in emergencies. May float to other Baystate Health locations to support patient care and staffing needs. Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates excellent customer service through positive patient experience; promotes positive inter/intradepartmental communications and relationships; maintains confidentiality. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of required imaging equipment in the area of specialty. Demonstrates proficiencies with CR, DR, PACs and modality-specific equipment. Identifies patient information using two identifiers; complies with National Patient Safety Goals and ARRT Code of Ethics; performs routine, specialized, emergency and urgent imaging procedures; provides accurate, high-quality exams. Maintains operational communication with supervisor/manager; follows through with assigned tasks. Works as a member of the health care team including physicians, nurses and other professionals in diagnostic testing. Operates and maintains exam room and equipment; evaluates equipment problems and expedites service or repair; performs quality checks; maintains supplies; keeps rooms neat and clean; ensures supplies are not damaged or outdated; disposes waste appropriately. Recognizes examination findings requiring immediate clinical response; notifies radiologist and ensures timely transfer of images to PACS. Ensures ongoing compliance with JC, MQSA, ACR, DPH/CMS requirements; participates in departmental quality assurance activities; supports QC activities. Performs accurate, high-quality exams with proper technique, positioning and visualization; instructs patient to maximize complete results. Maintains skills across age groups; provides appropriate patient care for pediatric to geriatric patients. Presents self professionally to patients and customers. Attends in-service meetings and training to enhance clinical skills. Provides suggestions for departmental policy improvements to supervisor. Inputs data and demographics into modality-specific systems accurately. Assists in training of technologists, residents and students where applicable; demonstrates willingness to learn new procedures. Observes strict safety standards to protect patients, staff and visitors; maintains a hazard-free environment. Uses time effectively to coordinate patients and procedures for productivity as observed by supervisor. Assists radiologist in sterile procedures as dictated by modality. Adheres to radiation safety procedures; wears monitoring device as required. Must be able to work independently in all areas.
