Police Officer Salary Range (non-certified applicants)
$67,183.63 - $89,835.96 The Sterling Police Department is conducting ongoing testing to develop a list of candidates for Police Officer. The Sterling Police Department receives tremendous support from our residents, the City Council, and the City Administration. We are seeking entry level and experienced officers who are looking to work in a team environment. We offer many training opportunities and exceptional equipment. Entry Level Requirements
Entry Level Applicants will be required to complete the written National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) at Sauk Valley Community College.
Orientation & testing information will be provided at a later date. Application Submission

The Sterling Police Department consists of 29 sworn officers amongst two divisions, Operations and Investigative. Authorized staffing includes: A Chief of Police, 2 Deputy Chiefs, 5 Sergeants, 17 patrol officers, 3 detectives, 1 School Resource Officer. In 2023, Sterling PD logged 16,774 calls for service.
