About the Role

The Associate Vice President of Middle Market Excess Casualty will be responsible for shaping the underwriting strategy for the middle-market excess casualty segment, focusing on key verticals such as construction, hotels & motels, residential real estate and restaurants/retail. You will build and manage a high-performing underwriting team, refine underwriting practices, conduct portfolio analysis to optimize profitability and growth, develop and enforce rigorous underwriting standards, and collaborate with the distribution and operations teams to expand market reach, enhance broker relationships and improve service and efficiency. You’ll also engage in strategic planning and quarterly business reviews, partner with senior leadership to evolve models and guidelines, and stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activity and regulatory developments. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years' experience in excess & surplus (E&S) casualty underwriting within the P&C insurance industry, with demonstrated expertise in underwriting for middle-market segments such as construction, hospitality or residential real estate. Leadership experience in building and developing teams is essential, as is a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a results-driven orientation. A bachelor’s degree is required; professional designations such as CPCU, AU or CIC are preferred. Experience with start-up or business unit build-out in a fast-paced environment is a plus.
