The opportunity

Private Tax is a growing practice within EY, and you’ll see that growth reflected in your career. The team focuses on serving privately held companies and their owners and families, from family‑owned businesses to private‑equity owned companies, ranging from start‑ups to multi‑billion‑dollar global enterprises. You’ll tackle technically demanding tax planning and compliance projects, act as a key point of contact across multiple teams, and work on cross‑border and cross‑functional engagements. EY offers extensive support designed to develop your technical tax knowledge, professional leadership, and business acumen.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage technical planning and advisory for private entities (C‑Corp, S‑Corp, partnerships) and high‑profile individuals, providing trusted advisory and role‑modeling.
  • Coach and develop a highly trained team while focusing on quality and commercial value.
  • Collaborate with partners and teams to develop account strategies and identify and deliver additional services to clients.

Skills And Attributes For Success

  • Research tax issues to develop effective planning strategies.
  • Lead teams on a wide range of tax work for entities and individuals.
  • Translate complex data from multiple sources into client‑ready insights and deliverables.
  • Build effective long‑term client relationships based on their unique needs.
  • Communicate complex tax issues to non‑tax professionals and clients.
  • Maintain reputation by continuously updating and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Supervise high‑performing teams and share expertise of leading practices.
  • Identify and respond to risks and opportunities to improve services and processes.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field with significant tax, business or financial planning experience; CPA or Bar membership required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in professional services or a professional tax organization.
  • Thorough understanding of estate and wealth planning, federal and state personal and trust income tax.
  • Experience with flow‑through entities (S‑COrps, partnerships, LLCs).
  • Experience with C‑Corporations including income tax provisions and consolidated federal and state tax returns.
  • Excellent collaboration, negotiation, and confident communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of automated tax processing systems and applicable laws.
  • Experience managing budgets and projects.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work in a hybrid environment.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • A proven record in tax planning for owners and their families.
  • A proven record in a professional services environment.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Executive presence and business‑development skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability working with internal and client team members.
