Opportunity at a Glance The Advising and Retention Specialist role is responsible for promoting student success and providing comprehensive student support through accurate and responsive advisement in the areas of academic advising, registration, financial aid, and healthcare compliance/practicum. The role reports to the Supervisor or Manager of Advising and Retention Services and functions as a key point of contact that fosters a culture of Chamberlain CARE and TEACH values.

Responsibilities

Assist students with course registration and ensure they understand degree and practicum application requirements.

Advocate for students’ academic, financial, and healthcare compliance advising needs to support successful enrollment, engagement, and completion of educational goals by monitoring progress, identifying at‑risk scenarios, and providing timely resource referrals.

Partner with the Student Support Liaison to provide coordinated support for students, ensuring seamless communication and a consistent student experience.

Advise students on university policies, procedures, self‑service tools, and program requirements related to academic, financial aid, and healthcare compliance matters.

Provide financial advising throughout the student lifecycle by monitoring student accounts, offering guidance on financial eligibility, and adjusting financial plans as needed.

Utilize appropriate systems and student data to confirm and track accurate enrollment, persistence, and graduation information for assigned program/campus locations and/or assisting multiple locations based on enrollment needs. Document all interactions in the institutional systems.

Maintain a thorough understanding of all Title IV and academic policies, including federal and state regulations, and ensure compliance.

Engage students through virtual advising appointments, inbound/outbound calls, email, SMS, and proactive outreach to deliver first‑contact resolution.

Identify opportunities and implement process and technology solutions to enhance the student retention journey.

Collaborate with other departments and functional areas to deliver an optimal student experience.

Respond to student inquiries regarding healthcare compliance requirements, providing accurate guidance to ensure students meet necessary standards.

Support the new student intake process by partnering with enrollment to answer incoming questions, review program costs, and present financial plans with clear timelines.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Comply with all institutional policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

2+ years of experience in customer service, academic advising, financial aid advising, higher education, or a related field preferred.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Ability to work a variety of office hours, including evenings and weekends.

High level of interpersonal, problem‑solving, and communication skills with superior written and verbal abilities.

Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.

Self‑starter with the ability to prioritize effectively.

Exposure to software and tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Copilot). Experience with Student Information Systems a plus.

Eligible to obtain and maintain system access to the NSLDS system (must not be in default of Title IV federal aid).

Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, while interacting with individuals at all levels.

Additional Information In support of pay‑transparency laws, the expected salary range for this position is between $18.70 and $24.52 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job‑related factors such as experience, training, geographic location, licensure, certifications, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibility. The position qualifies for the following benefits.
