Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Assist the Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the grocery department, including supervising and training personnel on the night crew.

Supervise and participate in all night crew activities to maximize sales, earnings, and customer satisfaction in the grocery department. Report incidents requiring discipline to the Grocery Manager and Store Director and communicate night crew activities with them. Oversee the total store during the night crew as directed by the Store Director.

Maintain product quality: rotate, stock, face products, discard out‑of‑code and spoiled items, and keep the backroom organized. Clean and dust shelves.

Assist with ordering, receiving, storing, stocking, inventory control, and building displays. Operate related equipment such as hand trucks, six‑wheel carts, pallet jacks, and ladders. Maintain a safe, secure, and sanitary working environment.

Help the Grocery Manager plan, organize, and execute regular and seasonal merchandise requirements and special sales needs.

Ensure cost, quality, and inventory levels by verifying orders against invoices, auditing product case contents, and completing necessary forms and reports accurately.

Implement company and division operating and merchandising policies and practices. Control shrink, prevent damage and sale of unsafe or out‑of‑code products, and assist in the reclamation process.

Create an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous service. Handle positive vendor relations.

Enforce company loss prevention and security policies during after‑hours.

Perform all job duties accurately, safely, and with honesty and integrity.

Perform other duties as assigned and necessary.

Skills And Physical Requirements

Friendly, courteous, and proactive; maintain composure with customers, co‑workers, and vendors, focus through interruptions and complaints.

Work cooperatively in a team or independently without supervision when the store is closed.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Must stand and walk for long periods; frequently reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects up to approximately 80 lb. Push or pull fully loaded hand trucks, six‑wheel carts, or pallet jacks; may climb ladders; use safety cutters and cleaning supplies.

Mental alertness required for safe, accurate completion of repetitive tasks.

Knowledge of basic mathematics, inventory control, storage, merchandising, shipping and receiving procedures.

Skill in mental dexterity and eye‑hand coordination for repetitive movements.

Work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled; must be able to work with little supervision and maintain regular attendance.

Cover various positions throughout the store as needed.

Implement emergency procedures for equipment and computer software malfunctions.

Comply with company grooming standards and dress code.

Work Environment

Exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Occasional exposure to temperatures of 28 °F in the cooler and approximately ‑20 °F in the freezer.

Store operates under temperature‑controlled conditions; loading and receiving areas may involve varying temperatures. Occasional outdoor exposure with varying temperatures.

Union and Non-Union The pay range is $17.38 to $26.15 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).
