Job Summary/Basic Function:
Provide information to current and potential Brazosport College Adult Education & Literacy ( AEL ) students concerning registration procedures, testing requirements, career, job opportunities and academic advancement opportunities. The role is also to provide advice for students who desire assistance with problems of a personal or social nature and provide aptitude, interest, achievement. and personality tests to aid students in assessing themselves. Provides students with information regarding available resources within BC/community. Supports Student Success initiatives for the department. This position is contingent upon grant funding and satisfactory performance.
This position reports to the Dean, Adult Education and Literacy & Transition Initiatives
Counsels and advises students concerning educational, vocational/career plans.
Provides educational and career information; advises students about areas of study and academic transfer to post-secondary; and assists students with course selection.
Talks to students about interests, aptitudes, values, etc., and use interest inventories and other test results to guide students in their education and career plans and decisions.
Provides advising support for AEL students and refers them to the Office of Student Wellness and Basic Needs as needed.
Provide follow-up to ensure barriers are being addressed.
Addresses retention and maintain post-service tracking.
Provides advising support for AEL students, including assisting in disseminating High School Equivalency and Transportation vouchers.
Provides registration information to Adult Education and Literacy and potential college students.
Make presentations and interact with high school, college, and/or community representatives to implement special programs and events.
In support of the Dean of Student Services, understands and discusses FERP A guidelines with students. Understand federal and state policy and procedures as applicable to the grant.
Completes administrative duties, including detailed record keeping. Maintain data and prepare reports as needed.
Participates in AEL and advisor/counselor meetings to maintain knowledge of current practices or updates.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
Location: Position is 100% on-site presence
Physical Demands: Able to traverse campus, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, bending, vision, hearing, and talking.
