Reports To Managing Director / Head of Capital Markets
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Commercial Mortgage Broker to originate, structure, and close commercial real estate debt transactions across a wide range of property types. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of sourcing borrowers, placing debt with diverse capital sources, and executing transactions efficiently from origination through closing. This role requires deep market knowledge, strong lender relationships, and the ability to structure creative financing solutions tailored to each asset and borrower.
Key Responsibilities
Originate and broker commercial mortgage transactions across multiple property types, including but not limited to:
Office
Retail
Mixed-use
Hospitality
Self-storage
Medical office
Ground-up construction and value-add projects
Source and cultivate borrower relationships through networking, referrals, and proactive outreach.
Analyze property financials, rent rolls, operating statements, and borrower profiles.
Structure debt solutions including permanent loans, bridge loans, construction financing, mezzanine debt, and preferred equity.
Place loans with a broad range of capital providers, including:
Banks and credit unions
Life insurance companies
Debt funds
Agency lenders (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, where applicable)
Prepare offering memoranda and lender submission packages.
Negotiate loan terms and guide transactions through underwriting, due diligence, and closing.
Coordinate with borrowers, lenders, attorneys, appraisers, and third-party vendors.
Maintain current knowledge of market trends, interest rates, and lender appetites.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 5+ years of experience originating and brokering commercial mortgages.
Demonstrated closing history across multiple commercial property types.
Established relationships with a wide range of commercial lenders.
Strong financial analysis and underwriting skills.
Ability to independently source deals and manage the full transaction lifecycle.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
Proficiency with Excel and common real estate financial modeling tools.
Real estate license or mortgage broker license (where required by state).
Preferred Attributes
Existing borrower and lender network.
Experience with complex or non-traditional transactions.
Strong entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivation.
Ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
Familiarity with capital markets platforms and CRM systems.
