The 1st Assistant Golf Professional plays a key leadership role within the Golf Operations team at Old Waverly. This position supports the Head Golf Professional in delivering a premier golf experience for members and their guests while upholding the club’s traditions, standards, and service culture. The role involves daily golf operations, member relations, instruction, tournament administration, and staff leadership.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Member & Guest Experience

Deliver exceptional, personalized service to club members and their guests

Build and maintain strong relationships with the membership

Enforce club policies, etiquette, and pace-of-play standards in a professional manner

Golf Operations

Assist in overseeing daily golf shop and course operations

Manage tee sheets, starting duties, and on-course play

Ensure smooth operation of practice facilities and short-game areas

Support point-of-sale operations and procedures

Instruction & Player Development

Provide private and group instruction for members of all ages and abilities

Assist with junior golf programs, clinics, and member development initiatives

Promote instructional programs that enhance member engagement

Tournaments & Member Events

Assist in planning, organizing, and administering club tournaments and member events

Manage scoring, rules interpretations, and event logistics

Communicate event details clearly and professionally with members

Merchandising & Retail

Assist with merchandising strategies, inventory control, and retail presentation

Support buying decisions, special orders, and member merchandising requests

Maintain a polished and professional golf shop appearance

Staff Leadership & Training

Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising golf operations staff

Lead by example in professionalism, service standards, and work ethic

Foster a positive, team-oriented culture within the golf department

Qualifications

PGA Member or PGA Associate enrolled in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program (preferred)

Previous experience in private club golf operations of 3 – 5 years strongly preferred

Strong knowledge of the Rules of Golf and tournament administration

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills

High standard of professionalism and discretion

Work Schedule & Physical Requirements

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and club events

Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions

Ability to lift and carry golf equipment and merchandise (up to 40 lbs)
