A DC-based association management company is looking for a versatile, motivated and energetic association professional with business development, marketing, and project management experience to join our growing team!

The successful candidate will be a sharp, results-oriented individual with proven success in workforce development and community engagement, as well as with excellent oral & written communications skills. This candidate will work closely with our executive team and will serve as our primary liaison to universities and other educational institutions, with the goal of increasing awareness, understanding, and adoption of the building commissioning profession among students and faculty.

Key Responsibilities University Outreach & Academic Partnerships Serve as the primary point of contact with universities, colleges, and technical programs, including departments such as mechanical and electrical engineering, architectural engineering, construction management, facilities, sustainability, and related disciplines Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, department chairs, deans, and career services professionals Secure and coordinate guest lecture engagements, classroom presentations, and campus information sessions, leveraging association’s subject-matter experts Represent the association at university career fairs, student conferences, and academic events

Internship, Co-Op & Early Career Pipeline Development Establish and grow internship, co-op, and experiential learning opportunities in collaboration with association’s member companies Act as a connector between students, universities, and association’s member companies Promote association’s member companies as preferred early-career destinations f Coordinate with member firms to identify workforce needs and communicate opportunities to academic partners

Marketing, Outreach & Member Value Position association’s industry as a high-demand, technically rigorous, and impactful career path Develop and deliver targeted outreach messaging, presentations, and promotional materials tailored to academic audiences Apply consultative sales techniques to gain buy-in from faculty and administrators for curriculum inclusion and program participation Strengthen association’s value proposition by delivering measurable workforce development benefits to member companies Provide universities with association-developed educational resources, case studies, and industry examples

Program Management, Data & Reporting Track university engagements, guest lectures, career fairs, student reach, and internship placements Maintain accurate records in the association’s CRM or tracking systems Prepare reports and updates for the executive team Use data to refine outreach strategies and demonstrate program impact

Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in university relations, workforce development, outreach, marketing, sales, or business development required. Proven ability to build relationships and influence decision-makers in academic or professional settings Strong presentation and public-speaking skills Willingness to travel to universities, career fairs, and association’s-related events Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills. Strong customer service orientation and commitment to company’s “Members Come First” motto. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work effectively yet remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in work environment. Excellent time-management, prioritizing, problem prevention and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to handle multiple assignments and projects simultaneously and work independently as well as a collaborative environment across internal departments in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work across internal departments is a must. Work as a team toward achieving individual, company’s, and client’ annual business plan and budget goals. Ability to travel at least 50% of the time per year. Motivation to succeed, outgoing and friendly personality.

Preferred Experience in building commissioning, building performance, energy, HVAC, or the AEC industry Familiarity trade associations in this industry Understanding of engineering education structures, accreditation, or curriculum development CAE certification Preferred knowledge of CRM, iMIS or a similar membership database; MailChimp, Constant Contact or a similar marketing platform; WordPress, SurveyMonkey, and YouTube.
