POST Investigator
The Utah Department of Public Safety, Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is looking for an Investigator to investigate officer misconduct cases, conduct applicant backgrounds and teach some basic training courses. This person will play an integral role in POST's mission to strengthen faith and confidence in law enforcement for the citizens of Utah.
Principal Duties
Conduct investigations into officer misconduct complaints of inappropriate activities and/or illegal actions.
Teach basic training courses: report writing, interview and interrogation, etc.
Review and process police academy candidates' applications to determine entrance eligibility.
Enforce laws, rules, and regulations.
Conduct investigations into allegations of a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions or illegal actions.
Identify problems or potential problem areas and recommend solutions.
Interpret, clarify, explain and apply agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Receive, research and respond to incoming questions or complaints; provide information, explain policy and procedures, and/or facilitate a resolution.
Maintain detailed inspection or investigation records, prepare reports, and attend to other related administrative requirements.
Act as an expert witness.
Give testimony and/or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings.
Provide assistance and/or on-the-job training.
Ideal Candidate
Is currently law enforcement (LEO) certified.
Has a minimum of seven (7) years law enforcement experience.
Has a minimum of two (2) years investigative experience.
Has extensive experience with teaching and training presentations.
Is self‑motivated.
Is meticulous and thorough.
Has the ability to take a concept and turn it into a finished product.
Has knowledge of interviewing techniques and processes.
Has the ability to read, interpret and apply laws, administrative rules, case law to facts of cases.
Preference May be given to current Department of Public Safety employees.
Supplemental Information
POST certification; Peace Officer Standards Training in Utah is required.
A valid driver license is required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
Applicants are subject to drug screening and extensive background investigation prior to final offer of employment.
Incumbent shall reside within 50 miles of POST (410 West 9800 South, Sandy, Utah).
