Job Summary The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks highly qualified candidates to fill the MEPD Advisor II position within the Office Access and Eligibility Services (AES) Eligibility Services Division.
This role is driven by the mission to connect people, services, and supports by helping individuals and families in need of food, medical care, cash assistance and other social services.

Responsibilities Process appeal requests and represent the agency during the Fair Hearing Process.
Accurately determine eligibility for Medicaid for the Elderly and People with Disabilities (MEPD) programs.
Interview clients in person or by outbound phone calls, document information, verify case data, explain program benefits, and answer questions.
Prepare evidence packets and testimony for hearings, attend hearings as the agency representative, and testifying as a technical authority.
Review case records for accuracy of eligibility determinations, conduct case reviews, and obtain information through observation and recording findings.
Provide guidance to regional staff, resolve complaints and escalated issues, counsel clients on social services programs, research policies, cooperate with legal and policy staff, coordinate hearing activities, and obtain verification of client information.
Maintain automated case records, communicate internally and externally, and perform shadowing activities and other duties as assigned.
Work occasional overtime, weekends, and other hours as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Interviewing techniques, basic arithmetic, effective working relationships, active listening, deadline management, reading and applying regulations and policies, priority setting, conflict resolution, computer operation, data entry, Microsoft Office, independent work under limited supervision, dynamic fast‑paced environment, and documentation skills.
Initial Screening Criteria High School Diploma or GED equivalent; 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university preferred.
Two years’ relevant public‑contact customer service experience required (retail, call center, clerical, hospitality, banking, etc.).
Twelve months experience as a MEPD Advisor II within the last year required.
EWMS experience within the last year preferred.
Experience in Medicaid policy and procedures within the last year required.
Ability to travel as indicated and work outside normal business hours, including weekends.
Additional Information Number of positions to be vha=2.
Position is located at any office in Texas with availability.
