OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY The Science Communications Digital & Social Media Specialist will be responsible for managing robust social media platforms and maintaining familiarity with best practices. The position will also be responsible for using multimedia tools to craft innovative science stories either on their own or in partnership with other science writers. This position will use video, podcasts, and more to tell stories and will bring creativity and innovation to their approach. The role will also contribute to the team’s science writing and other writing efforts as well as website expertise.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Create video, audio and other new media products to tell science stories

Build and maintain social media strategy and platforms

Stay up-to-date with digital media developments

Write pieces aimed at both internal and external audiences

Perform other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in science and/or journalism. Master’s degree in science writing preferred

3+ years of experience managing social media platforms, preferably in science

Video and audio production and editing expertise

Science writing experience

Excellent analytical and project management skills

Ability to multitask and perform under tight deadlines

Strong verbal and written communication skills
