Position Overview

As our Technical Writer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining accurate, detailed documentation that supports the design, fabrication, assembly and installation of metal products and systems for our organization. It is your job to work with our engineering team to produce clear, professional manuals, drawings, and other engineering documents. This includes creating dimensional drawings and pictorial information for end-users.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Bridge the gap between engineering and end-user understanding, combining technical writing skills with AutoCAD proficiency to produce accurate, visually clear, and professional materials
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and subject matter experts to gather and interpret technical data
  • Convert complex engineering concepts into clear, concise written content suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation that includes detailed drawing, schematics, specifications, and design visuals
  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation such as: operations manuals, installation guides, assembly instructions, maintenance procedures, product specifications, engineering documentation and standard operations procedures (SOPs)
  • Use AutoCAD to create or modify 2D/3D drawings, diagrams, and schematics for inclusion in technical documents
  • Ensure all documentation complies with company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer requirements
Position Compensation

Position Requirements
  • Must have 2+ years' experience in writing and illustration technical documentation in a manufacturing or metal fabrication setting
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and welding symbols
  • Preferred - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Technical Writing, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field
  • Able to read, interpret and edit engineering drawings in AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of technical terminology, engineering documentation standards and drawing conventions
  • Ability to create technical illustrations, line art or simplified CAD rendering for manuals
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, and quality teams
  • Producing clear, user-focused documentation
  • Software used - 60% use of AutoCAD for developing dimensional drawings and parts; 5% use of Creo for resources dimensional drawings and parts; 25% use of Corel Draw for parts page development; 5% use of Photoshop for photo editing; 5% uses Arbortext/Adobe to format and publish
