Company Overview
The Portfolio Manager provides enterprise level oversight and governance for DGIT strategic IT initiatives. This role ensures alignment with business priorities, drives cross functional transparency, and stewards multiyear roadmaps that span multiple domains. The Sr Portfolio Manager directs prioritization, sequencing, resource alignment, and delivery governance across all programs within the portfolio. The position serves as a key liaison between IT and business partners, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, and vendor partners to ensure clarity, accountability and on time execution. Although this role does not have HR direct reports, it provides day to day leadership, work direction and supervision to Project managers, project Analysts, and Scrum Masters responsible for coordinating delivery.
Job Details Duties & Responsibilities Portfolio Management
Owns end to end portfolio strategy, planning, prioritization, and execution across multiple IT domains
Leads development of integrated portfolio roadmaps, including scope, financials, dependencies, and multi-year scheduling
Provides daily leadership and work supervision to Project Managers, project Analysts, and Scrum Masters; assigns work, sets priorities, and ensures delivery outcomes
Oversees definition and approval of project charters, success metrics and critical milestones
Drives alignment with business partners, Finance Engineering, and product Teams to optimize delivery sequencing and business value
Leads risk, issue, and dependency management across program and domain boundaries
Facilitates executive steerco discussions, communicates strategic trade-offs, and influences decision making across senior stakeholders
Govern & Measure
Champions portfolio governance practices and organizational change management across all supported projects
Establishes delivery health KPIs, monitors portfolio performance, and leads portfolio-wide reporting to senior leadership (Director, CIO, VPs)
Ensures compliance to PMO standards, DG governance, SOX/SOW requirements and financial stewardship expectations
Partners with ITFA (Finance) to manage forecasting actuals, capital expense allocation budget variance, and vendor cost tracking
Evaluates resource capacity, identifies gaps, and drives cross team resource strategies to ensure portfolio success
Leads cross functional review cycles, escalates risks proactively, and drives mitigation action across domains
Consolidates program level information into clear, executive ready summaries and dashboards
Team Development
Provides day to day supervision, direction and coaching to Project Managers, Project Analysts, and Scrum Masters without formal HR reporting responsibilities
Mentors team members on portfolio management practices, delivery governance, and communication standards
Represents IT in enterprise committees, portfolio forums, and cross functional working groups
Builds strong relationships with Business, engineering, legal, Finance, and Strategic Functions to support holistic delivery
Promotes IT culture of accountability, commitment tracking transparency and continuous improvement
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Ability to understand and communicate decisions impact the broader enterprise (big Picture perspective)
Expertise in Project and Portfolio Management, Risk and Issue Management, and Strategic Planning across multi-year initiatives
Strong leadership and communication skills for influencing senior stakeholders across the enterprise
Ability to assign work, set priorities, and supervise delivery teams in a non-HR management model
Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and drive outcomes under tight deadlines
Work Experience &/or Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8+ years of experience in project management or portfolio management (multi-year/ multi-domain experience strongly preferred)
Retailer distribution industry experience preferred
PMI, PgMP, SAFE, or similar certifications are a plus
