Job Summary Under the general direction of the Senior Forest Property Appraiser, the Associate Forest Property Appraiser (AFPA) monitors forest products market conditions to prepare preliminary harvest values as required by the Revenue and Taxation Code, Part 18.5 of Division 2. The role provides support to the Business Tax and Fee Division (BTFD) programs, ensuring uniform administration of the timber yield tax throughout California and effective valuation, collection, and distribution of yield tax revenue to counties where timber is harvested. Travel may be required up to 65% of the time.

Responsibilities

Monitor forest products market conditions and prepare preliminary harvest values.

Support BTFD programs related to timber yield tax administration.

Ensure uniform administration of timber yield tax statewide.

Conduct field work in forest mountain environments.

Travel as required (up to 65%).

Qualifications Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications listed in the Classification Specification. Candidates may include:

Experience in forest property appraisal (a benefit, not required).

Valid California Driver’s License and RPF license issued by the Bureau of Forestry.

Ability to travel up to 65% of the time.

Special Requirements

Participation in E‑Verify; Form I‑9 requirements.

Must be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation.

Must maintain a valid CA Driver’s License and RPF license issued by the BOF.
