The Lead Mechanical QCX is responsible for leading all mechanical quality assurance and quality control activities for a hyperscale data center project in Abilene, Texas. This role ensures mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in full compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, and client quality standards. The Lead Mechanical QCX serves as the primary mechanical quality authority on-site, coordinating across construction, engineering, commissioning, and safety teams to deliver reliable, code-compliant, and high-quality mechanical systems.
Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee mechanical quality assurance activities across all project phases, ensuring compliance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and client quality standards. Develop, implement, and maintain Mechanical Quality Control Plans (QCPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and discipline-specific work instructions. Supervise and mentor Mechanical QA/QC Inspectors, ensuring consistent inspection execution and documentation across all mechanical scopes. Perform and coordinate field inspections and surveillance for mechanical systems, including: Process Piping & Utilities HVAC & Mechanical Systems Plumbing & Drainage Exhaust, Scrubbers, and Abatement Systems Mechanical Equipment Installation Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, AWS, SMACNA, SEMI, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local AHJ requirements. Review and approve mechanical submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, weld procedures (WPS/PQR), and material certifications. Ensure proper material control, including receipt inspections, traceability, storage, and installation verification. Monitor and enforce welding, bolting, torqueing, pressure testing, flushing, and cleaning procedures. Lead and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), deficiencies, and punch list items, ensuring root-cause analysis and corrective action closure. Coordinate with construction, commissioning, engineering, and safety teams to resolve quality issues and maintain schedule alignment. Support pre-commissioning and commissioning readiness, ensuring mechanical systems meet quality requirements prior to startup. Maintain accurate mechanical quality documentation, including inspection reports, test records, redlines, and as-built verification. Participate in client quality meetings, audits, and walkthroughs, serving as the primary mechanical quality representative. Track and report quality metrics, trends, and performance indicators, driving continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure all mechanical quality activities comply with EHS and LOTO requirements. Support lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts to enhance mechanical quality execution on future projects. Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role. Skills Required:
3+ years of experience in mechanical QA/QC, commissioning, or construction quality roles, preferably on data center, semiconductor, industrial, or mission-critical projects Strong working knowledge of mechanical construction practices, inspection methodologies, and commissioning readiness Experience with HVAC systems, chilled water, condenser water, piping systems, and mechanical equipment installation Proven experience leading QA/QC teams and interfacing directly with owners, engineers, and contractors Thorough understanding of applicable codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, ASHRAE, SMACNA, etc.) Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and manage multiple priorities Education / Licenses / Certifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (highly desirable, not required). High School Diploma required.
