The Process Piping Designer supports the planning, design, and development of piping systems for industrial and manufacturing facilities. The role involves producing detailed piping layouts and design deliverables in coordination with engineers, designers, and project teams to ensure safe, constructible, and compliant piping systems. Duties
Prepare detailed process piping layouts, routing studies, and installation details. Develop and modify 3D models, piping plans, sections, and details for industrial piping systems. Produce and check Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in coordination with process engineers. Develop piping isometrics, spool drawings, and material take-offs (MTOs). Apply applicable codes, standards, and specifications, including ASME B31.3. Coordinate piping design with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines. Assist with equipment layout optimization to support efficient piping routing and constructability. Support stress, flexibility, and constructability reviews in coordination with engineering staff. Interpret vendor drawings, specifications, and data sheets for incorporation into design documents. Participate in interdisciplinary reviews, model audits, and design checks. Support field walk-downs, as-built documentation, and resolution of construction issues. Maintain drawing standards, quality procedures, and project documentation controls. Provide design support for proposal and estimating activities as required. Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting, Design, Engineering Technology, or related discipline. A minimum of five years of experience in process or industrial piping design. Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems, materials, valves, and fittings. Experience working in an EPC or consulting engineering environment. Solid understanding of P&IDs, piping plans, and isometric drawings. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing facilities (steel, chemical, power, or similar). Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Smart 3D (SP3D), or equivalent 3D piping design software. Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 Process Piping and related industry codes. Familiarity with pipe stress and analysis concepts and coordination with engineering teams. Experience producing construction-ready drawings and deliverables. Strong communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams. Work Environment & Expectations
Office-based engineering environment with occasional field or site assignments. Collaboration with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients. Ability to support multiple projects and meet schedule commitments. Desired Attributes
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to learn new software tools and design standards. Travel
Occasional travel may be required between offices.
