Lead Recreation Specialist
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. Department: Parks and Recreation Hours of Work: Hours and Schedules Vary: Monday thru Sunday; 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM Location: 315 Price Street Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40. To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances. Example of Duties: Under supervision, the Lead Recreation Specialist leads entry-level facility staff. Delivers recreation activities and events, monitors participant behavior and maintains a clean facility. This position is distinguished from that of Recreation Specialist I by the degree of accountability in the work and greater latitude in the exercise of independent judgment concerning assigned duties. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required. All applicants must possess or obtain: American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire. A valid State of Alaska Driver's License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire. Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
