The Auto Mechanic is responsible for the periodic maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles and a variety of construction work equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of two years of mechanical experience dealing extensively with all types of construction equipment and fleet vehicles. Two years of vocational training in automotive technology preferred. General welding, including structural, and fabrication experience is preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or other certifications (such as forklift, manlift, CNG, welding, A/C repair, Air brakes, etc.) is preferred.

Have knowledge of auto, truck, and construction equipment mechanics; basic to complex mechanical and maintenance practices and procedures; all tools and technical diagnostic equipment usage and maintenance; safe work practices including automotive environmental compliance; Company forms and records; Company procedure manuals; state and federal regulations; troubleshooting techniques; complex diagnostic, repair and maintenance procedures; parts availability and proper supply levels; work scheduling priorities; the ability to prioritize workload; personal computer skills.

TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Complete assignments by performing basic and/or complex repair and maintenance on auto, truck, and construction equipment

Troubleshoot repair problems

Schedule and complete work assignments for vehicles

Design and fabricate components for new vehicles as required

Perform general welding, including structural, and body work as needed; general welding may include performing light structural welding (spot, stitch and bead type welds) and welding fabrication/repairs on service trucks bodies, such as mud flaps, trailer fenders, trailer d-rings and on ramps

Install and maintain communications equipment and other Company technologies as required

Coordinate vehicle/equipment repairs with outside vendors and approve estimated repairs, as appropriate

Perform testing as required

Maintain tools and equipment as required

Maintain parts and supply inventories

Maintain and update technical and repair information resources

May direct and train the work of assigned personnel

Operate Fleet Information System (FIS)

Perform duties in a manner that is in compliance with Company, local, state and federal regulations, safety, automotive, environmental and emergency practices and procedures

Clean and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety

Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices in automotive repair

Promote good public relations

May assist with the mechanical maintenance of command center trailer and provide outage support as required

Maintain CNG station and perform CNG tank inspections as required

Perform other duties as assigned

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to meet current and future requirements for environmental, federal, state and local regulations.

Meet and maintain the strenuous physical requirements of the position.

Must possess a valid driver's license and/or other special licenses/certifications as required.

Must be able to meet requirements to acquire and maintain a Commercial Driver's License.

Must be available to perform shift work, staggered workweek, including recognized holidays.

Must be available to work overtime.

Must be able to wear a complete company-issued uniform.

Must be able to wear and use all personal protective safety equipment as operating conditions dictate.

Must be able to work with basic auto shop chemicals, both regulated and hazardous waste

Must be able to work in another location, district, or department, when required.

Must be able to work outdoors, exposed to extremes in temperatures and conditions.

May be exposed to natural gas during the course of work.

Must successfully complete all aspects of required training.

Must comply with Company rules of general conduct, Company policies and procedures.

Obtain emissions certificates as applicable to location and state.

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who performs a DOT-covered function or is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company's DOT drug and alcohol testing programs. Any employment, transfer, or promotion offer made for this position is contingent upon taking and passing a drug test prior to the commencement of the new role. If an applicant/employee fails the drug test, any offer of employment, transfer, or promotion will be revoked.

SALARY DETAILS $39.47 - $53.40
