Save Job

We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer who possesses a rare duality: the artistic soul of a visionary creative and the disciplined mind of a rigorous project manager. At Ovadia Design Group, we do not view these as separate disciplines but as the intertwined DNA of a successful leader. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between high‑level design direction and precise operational execution. You will be responsible for translating “The Art of Living” into tangible environments, leading diverse residential projects—from the quiet luxury of private estates in Deal and Long Island to the refined complexity of Brooklyn brownstones.

Crucially, this is a growth‑oriented role. You will not only execute projects but also actively contribute to the firm’s expansion. We are looking for a connected professional who can leverage their network to identify, cultivate, and bring in new residential commissions. You will be technically proficient, operationally disciplined, and capable of managing complex workflows using our specific technology stack (AutoCAD, Miro, ClickUp, Studio Designer).

Key Responsibilities 1. Design & Technical Leadership

Concept Development: You will lead the creative narrative, ensuring every home tells a cohesive story. You will facilitate design charrettes and build immersive mood boards that translate abstract client aspirations into concrete visual realities. This involves synthesizing texture, light, and form into concepts that are both glamorous and livable.

Architectural Documentation: The Ovadia aesthetic is defined by custom details—millwork, stone, and metals. You must produce “shop‑drawing quality” Construction Documents in AutoCAD. This goes beyond basic floor plans; it requires expert‑level capability in detailing complex joinery, stone transitions, and integrated lighting. Your drawings must be fully constructible, code‑compliant, and coordinated with MEP and structural engineers to minimize questions in the field.

Construction Administration (CA): You will act as the primary site lead and the guardian of the design intent. This requires attending weekly site meetings to review framing, rough‑ins, and finishes with a critical eye. When field conditions arise, you will proactively troubleshoot solutions with contractors, issuing sketches that resolve issues without compromising the aesthetic vision or the project timeline.

2. Project Management & Operations

Workflow Management: You will serve as the Project Manager. You are responsible for building and maintaining detailed budgets, schedules, identifying critical paths, and managing tasks. You will assign and monitor tasks for junior team members, ensuring that every milestone—from initial concept to final install—hits with precision.

Procurement & Financials: You will manage the entire procurement lifecycle. This is a role of financial stewardship. You will review proposals and purchase orders, manage complex expediting lists to track lead times, and maintain strict budget controls.

Efficiency Tracking: We run a data‑driven studio. You will maintain a personal target of 80% billable efficiency, tracked daily. Beyond your own metrics, you will use these analytics to identify workflow bottlenecks, coaching the team on how to execute tasks more effectively to improve overall studio performance.

3. Leadership & Business Development

New Business Generation: Actively utilize your professional network to identify and secure new high‑end residential project opportunities. You will be expected to cultivate relationships that contribute to the firm’s project pipeline and represent Ovadia Design Group at industry events.

Mentorship: You will operate as a “Player‑Coach,” supervising and mentoring Junior and Intermediate Designers. Your goal is to elevate the team’s standard of practice, providing technical guidance on firm standards, redlining drawings for quality control, and fostering their professional growth through constructive feedback.

Client Stewardship: You are the face of the project for our clients. You will manage day‑to‑day communications with the highest level of professionalism, empathy, and transparency. You will be the primary point of contact for project updates, skillfully managing expectations to build long‑term trust.

Qualifications

Experience: 7+ years of post‑graduate experience in high‑end residential design (NYC experience preferred).

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture.

Business Development: Proven track record of maintaining client relationships and an ability/willingness to bring in new projects to the firm.

Technical Proficiency:

AutoCAD: Expert level (Non‑negotiable).

Studio Designer: Proficiency in procurement and project management modules.

ClickUp or Other Project Management Software: Experience with agile task management and Gantt scheduling.

Miro or Other Whiteboard Software: Ability to create digital presentation boards and workflows.

Clockify or Other Time Tracking Software: Experience with time‑tracking and efficiency reporting.

Core Competencies: Deep knowledge of interior architecture and custom millwork; ability to work with minimal supervision; strong presentation skills.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 (Commensurate with experience)

Commission: Competitive commission structure for new business brought into the firm.

Benefits: Comprehensive health benefits, Paid Time Off (PTO), and professional development support.
