Mechanical Lead

Duties:
- Lead and actively contribute to the design and development of automotive and transit bus components, including EV systems, ensuring technical accuracy, innovation, compliance with global automotive standards and certification requirements (APTA, FMVSS 210/214)
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of engineering design principles and manufacturing processes, leading complex projects with innovative solutions and efficient processes
- Spearhead project execution from concept through release, combining hands-on 3D CAD modeling, GD&T application, tolerance analysis, and FEA with strategic team leadership to deliver customer-focused solutions
- Manage full product development lifecycle from concept through final release for plastic, sheet metal, composite, weldment and machined parts
- Lead communication between engineering/design and manufacturing teams, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
- Prepare and interpret FEA reports and apply analysis findings to the design cycle to optimize component performance
- Oversee reverse engineering initiatives to improve existing designs and validate modifications for enhanced performance and weight reduction
- Drive DFM/DFA practices to optimize product manufacturability and assembly efficiency, reducing production costs and cycle times, driving continuous improvement and significant cost savings
- Implement Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC), root cause analysis (5 Whys), and workflow optimization to improve quality, reduce rework, and accelerate design cycle times
- Prepare and manage technical documentation, engineering drawings, and design validation reports aligned with ISO 9001 quality standards
- Deliver technical training on CAD, PLM, FEA tools, and engineering best practices to internal teams and customers, enhancing skill sets and process adherence
- Act as primary technical liaison for customers and suppliers, ensuring design solutions meet specific requirements and facilitating effective collaboration
- Represent cross-functional and remote engineering teams, coordinating design reviews, stakeholder engagement, and customer communication throughout project phases and cascading to quality control & design validation (DV)
- Compliance & Functional Safety - Implement safety improvements to minimize assembly risks and foster a culture of safety and compliance
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field followed by 5 years of progressively responsible experience with automotive design and/or engineering.
- Experience must include:
- 5 years of experience with the vehicle development and lean design principles including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Service (DFS), and value engineering for cost efficiency
- 5 years of vehicle development experience with strong expertise in automotive systems including body, chassis, axles, wheels, brakes, interiors, exteriors and both conventional and electric powertrains
- 5 years of experience in automotive, commercial, and heavy-duty vehicle system integration and functional safety standards.
- 5 years of experience with sheet metal, weldments, machining, composites, advanced materials and their joining processes
- 5 years of experience with planning, scheduling, multi-tasking, and engaging with multiple stakeholders including cross-functional, remote & International design teams
- 5 years of experience collaborating with suppliers, engineering service suppliers, testing suppliers
- 5 years of experience supporting a production vehicle trial, troubleshooting of integration challenges, prototyping, testing
