The Public Defender will work closely with clients to ensure their rights are protected and that they receive fair representation in court.

*Responsibilities*

* Represent clients in criminal defense cases, ensuring their rights are upheld throughout the legal process.
* Negotiate plea deals and settlements with opposing counsel.
* Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as Westlaw to prepare for cases.
* Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
* Litigate cases in court, presenting evidence and arguments effectively.
* Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations relevant to workers' compensation law and tribal law regulations.
* Collaborate with other attorneys within the law office to strategize case approaches.
* Provide legal advice and support to clients regarding family law matters.

*Requirements*

* Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
* Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
* Strong knowledge of personal injury law, family law, and workers' compensation law.
* Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw.
* Excellent writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence.
* Proven ability to negotiate effectively on behalf of clients.
* Experience litigating cases in court is preferred.
* Familiarity with tribal law regulations is a plus.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
