Position Summary The Communications Manager is responsible for leading strategic communications that strengthen the company’s brand, elevate market visibility, and support business growth throughout the Southwest. This role oversees media relations, brand storytelling, awards and recognition, visual content creation, and internal communications. The Communications Manager manages the graphic design team, develops compelling written and visual content, and partners closely with business development, leadership, and project teams to enhance client relationships and reinforce the company’s reputation as a trusted construction industry leader.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Communications & Planning
Help develop and execute an annual communications strategy aligned with company growth, brand, and business development goals
Establish KPIs and measure effectiveness of communications, PR, & digital initiatives
Prepare regular reporting and insights for leadership
Media & Public Relations
Write, edit, and distribute press releases, announcements, and media pitches highlighting projects, milestones, leadership, and community involvement
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and industry media
Serve as a primary media contact & coordinate interviews, statements, and press inquiries
Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify proactive PR opportunities
Awards & Industry Recognition
Research, write, and submit award applications, rankings, and industry recognitions
Coordinate with project teams, leadership, and marketing to gather narratives, performance metrics, photography, and supporting materials
Maintain award calendars, deadlines, and submission tracking
Brand Management & Market Awareness
Champion brand standards and ensure consistent messaging, tone, and visual identity across all platforms
Lead initiatives to increase brand awareness and reputation throughout the Southwest
Translate technical construction concepts into clear, compelling brand stories
Enforce brand compliance across offices, regions, and departments
Photography, Videography & Digital Content
Plan, capture, & edit photography and video content at project sites, events, & offices
Produce short‑form video clips for social media, website, and digital marketing channels
Develop storyboards, scripts, and shot lists for video projects
Direct and oversee internal or external video and photo shoots
Maintain and organize a digital asset library of photos and video footage
Ensure all visual content aligns with brand standards, safety protocols, and schedules
Digital & Website Content Management
Oversee website content including news, project updates, blog posts, etc.
Ensure consistency of messaging across website, social media, and external platforms
Collaborate with internal teams or external vendor on website updates and enhancements
Help Coordinator develop and manage social media strategy and editorial calendars
Review and approve social media content to ensure quality, consistency, and brand voice
Monitor engagement and recommend content and platform optimizations
Manage and mentor graphic design team, setting priorities, timelines, creative direction
Review and approve creative deliverables to ensure quality and brand alignment
Collaborate with designers on marketing materials, digital assets, presentations, proposals, and event collateral
Client & Business Development Support
Support client relationship growth through proposals, presentations, case studies, and marketing materials: help define project approach and other narratives in proposals
Partner with business development teams to communicate value propositions and project success stories
Support client interviews, testimonials, and project highlight content
Executive, Internal & Event Communications
Support executive and leadership communications, including talking points, presentations, and thought leadership content
Develop internal communications that align employees with company goals, culture, and achievements
Support communications for groundbreakings, grand openings, community events, and industry events
Coordinate messaging, media outreach, and post‑event coverage
Manage relationships with external vendors, agencies, photographers, videographers, and freelancers as needed
Oversee scopes of work, budgets, timelines, and deliverables
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related
5+ years of experience in communications, PR, or marketing, preferably within AEC
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Experience managing media relations and creative teams
Hands‑on experience with photography, videography, and digital content creation
Preferred
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar photo/video editing tools
Experience producing short‑form video content for social media
Familiarity with the Southwest construction market
Strategic thinker with strong execution skills
Excellent visual and written storytelling ability
Strong project management and organizational skills
Collaborative, proactive, and detail‑oriented
Comfortable working in active construction environments
