Job Description

At South Plains College, our mission is to improve each student's life. The Digital Communications Specialist plays a vital role in bringing that mission to life online. The Digital Communications Specialist collaborates with the Marketing & Communications team to plan, produce, and publish high-quality digital media that effectively communicates the SPC story. This position manages content for the SPC website, leads social media strategy and execution, and photos that highlights the people and moments that make SPC special.

The ideal candidate blends creativity with precision, ensuring our digital presence is engaging, accessible, and aligned with the SPC brand.

Website Management & Digital Content Maintain an accurate, user-friendly, and accessible SPC website that supports students, employees, and community members. Partner with departments to create and update program pages, announcements, forms, and other online materials. Assist with page layout and design for digital campaigns and priority initiatives. Monitor website analytics to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance the overall user experience. Troubleshoot website issues and coordinate solutions with IT or external partners. Ensure consistency in navigation, structure, and branding across the site. Stay informed about emerging digital tools, technologies, and best practices to strengthen online communication. Social Media Strategy & Management

Plan, create, and schedule compelling social content that reflects SPC's values and supports recruitment, retention, and community engagement. Maintain a consistent voice and visual identity across all social media platforms. Track engagement and performance metrics to guide strategy and elevate SPC's online presence. Monitor and respond to messages, comments, and community interaction in a professional and timely manner. Support campus initiatives, events, and student experiences through dynamic digital storytelling. Photography & Multimedia

Occasionally photographs campus life, student activities, events, and programs. Produce and edit photos and short-form videos for use on SPC's website and social media channels. Ensure all digital content reflects SPC's brand standards for quality, tone, and accessibility. Collaboration & Support

Work closely with academic divisions, student services, and administrative offices to gather accurate information and highlight college initiatives. Serve as a resource for staff and faculty needing support with digital content or basic social media guidance. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of online communication, digital user experience, and brand storytelling. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the College's mission.

Preferred Skills: • Familiarity with ADA/WCAG accessibility standards and best practices. • Experience with Google Analytics, Meta Insights, or other digital analytics tools. • Knowledge of digital workflow, project management, or marketing automation tools. • Experience in photography or multimedia production.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in digital communications, marketing, web design/development, graphic communications, computer science, or a related field.

Two to five years of experience in website management, digital media, or social media coordination.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Experience in applying current computer technology and software applications to essential responsibilities, duties, and tasks. Photography, graphic design skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to students, visitors, faculty, and other employees of the organization.

WRITING AND REPORTING SKILLS

Superb writing skills and knowledge of press release style guides.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Ability to work with a wide variety of people and participate as a team member to accomplish multiple projects and goals. Ability to meet and greet the public in a positive and productive way.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

Ability to organize tasks and activities essential to performing the specific duties and responsibilities of this job. Ability to organize multiple projects and tasks and meet production deadlines.
