Job Description
CNBC is seeking a reporter to uncover potential investing ideas through deep data analysis and then create graphics that illustrate the data in a creative and compelling way. This role requires:
Analysis of complex data sets of stock prices, company fundamentals and industry figures to mine for anomalies and changes in trend
Understanding of company financials, including balance sheets, income statements, and valuation measures
The reporter should be able to identify changes in the data that may signal a potential shift in a stock or industry’s prospects
The ideal candidate would know various company filing types (10Ks, 10qs, 13fs, etc.)
The candidate should be proficient in excel and other data mining tools
The reporter should be able to collaborate with reporters and editors to develop storylines and produce interactive graphics and charts.
Qualifications: Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Journalism or related field
Proven experience in data analysis and visualization
The ability to work effectively in a high-intensity environment, often under tight deadlines
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
You’ll stand out with:
3+ years of creating similar data content for a major publication
Advanced degree related to Data Science
Experience working in a fast-paced digital newsroom
Experience analyzing companies for Wall Street
Clips featuring well-researched data sets
A deep understanding of company fundamentals
