Students at the high school engage in classes that prepare them for college and career readiness through the AP scholars program, concurrent enrollment, and CTE.
Providence Hall High School is seeking a Music Director for our Spring Musical for the 2025-2026 school year.
The High School Music Director is a $1,500 stipend-based position.
Auditions, practices, rehearsals, and performances are held after school, evenings, and weekends.
The Music Director is solely responsible for teaching the musical elements of the production to the cast and ensuring the musical integrity of the final performance. This position works in close collaboration with the Director and Choreographer.
Responsibilities:
- Teach and Rehearse Music: Systematically teach all vocal music and harmonies to the student cast, ensuring accurate pitch, rhythm, and diction, using sheet music and/or provided materials.
- Vocal Coaching: Provide individualized and group vocal coaching to help performers develop vocal technique, stamina, and character through song.
- Music Integration: Attend all assigned rehearsals to maintain the musical standards of the show and integrate the music seamlessly with the staging and choreography as it is developed by the Stage Director and Choreographer.
- Musical Consistency: Lead warm-ups and manage the musical needs of the rehearsal space, ensuring musical cues and transitions are executed consistently.
- Audition Support: Collaborate with the Stage Director during auditions and callbacks.
- Score Preparation: Prepare and organize all musical scores and parts for rehearsals and performances.
- Collaborate on Musical Choices: Work with the Director to discuss musical cuts, tempo choices, and stylistic interpretations to achieve a cohesive artistic vision.
- Foster a Positive Environment: Create and maintain a supportive and disciplined rehearsal environment that encourages student growth in musical performance.
- Other responsibilities related solely to the musical elements of the production as assigned.
- Musical Experience: Extensive experience in teaching and directing music.
- Music Theory & Vocal Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of music theory, vocal pedagogy, and the ability to teach various styles of music found in musical theatre.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills for managing scores, rehearsal schedules, and vocal tracking.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively instruct students and collaborate with the creative team (Stage Director, Choreographer, etc.).
- Commitment: Availability to attend all required after-school and potential weekend rehearsals from January 5th through performances on March 11-16.
- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment.
- Physical Requirements: Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting. The role primarily involves sitting, standing, and conducting/teaching; ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (e.g., musical equipment/scores) is required.
