Transition Your Teaching/Coaching Expertise to Financial Services – A Pathway to Leadership with The Mason District - Modern Woodmen of America!

Are you an educator or coach interested in exploring a new career path? The Mason District of Modern Woodmen of America invites professionals from the education and coaching fields to consider how their communication skills, mentorship experience, and passion for helping others can align with a career in financial services as a Financial Representative. This role offers fresh opportunities for personal growth, increased income potential, and long-term professional impact. Here’s why many former educators and coaches have found success in making this meaningful transition:

Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Educators and coaches are natural communicators who excel at breaking down complex topics—an essential skill for guiding clients through financial decisions with clarity and confidence.

Commitment to Helping Others Succeed: Just as they’ve supported students or athletes in reaching their potential, they thrive in financial services by helping clients set, pursue, and achieve meaningful financial goals.

Discipline and Goal Orientation: Coaching and teaching require planning, consistency, and tracking progress—all transferable skills that align perfectly with the structured approach needed for financial planning and long-term client relationships.

Trust and Relationship Building: Coaches and educators often serve as trusted mentors; that ability to build rapport and earn trust is invaluable in fostering lifelong client relationships in financial services.

Meet Our Local Leaders: Tobin Mason is a Managing Partner who joined Modern Woodmen in 2007. Prior to that, he was a business leader, owning and operating several small businesses. Outside of work, Tobin enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling with his family, and coaching Little League baseball. His passion for people and community shines through both in and out of the office.

Lynn Walstad has been a Financial Advisor with Modern Woodmen since 2008, starting his career at age 30. Before joining MWA, he worked in commercial window construction, traveling across a four-state area and spending most of his days outdoors. A proud father of five, Lynn stays busy with his children’s activities and helps run a family pheasant hunting business in the fall.

Adam Gress became a Financial Advisor with Modern Woodmen in 2024 at the age of 41. He came from a background in education as a middle school teacher and high school athletic coach, driven by a passion for serving others. Adam was drawn to MWA’s fraternal mission and its impact on communities. Outside the office, he runs a wrestling academy in Northwest Iowa and stays active with his three kids through sports, club activities, and church involvement.

Sarah May has been a Financial Advisor with Modern Woodmen since 2006, starting at the age of 28. She was drawn to the organization for its flexibility, which allowed her to thrive as a single mom while building a rewarding career. Today, Sarah continues to value MWA for its income potential, benefits, and the family atmosphere it fosters. She’s passionate about her grandchildren, gardening, reading, volunteering at schools, and caring for her pets.
