Job Description Overview A high-volume acute care hospital serving the Emerald Coast region is seeking an experienced
Director of Emergency Services
to lead emergency department operations across a main emergency department and multiple freestanding emergency locations.
This senior leadership role is responsible for clinical quality, patient throughput, staffing, financial performance, and growth initiatives within Emergency Services. The Director will play a key role in stabilizing operations, developing teams, improving retention, and supporting expansion of emergency services.
This opportunity is best suited for a
hands-on Emergency Department leader
with Level I or Level II trauma experience, strong operational discipline, and the ability to energize teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities Quality & Clinical Operations
Provide strategic and operational leadership for Emergency Services across multiple sites.
Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered emergency care.
Implement evidence-based practices to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety.
Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and trauma standards.
Oversee equipment readiness, maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
Direct nursing practice, clinical standards, and departmental policies.
Throughput & Care Coordination
Drive efficient patient flow through volume forecasting, staffing alignment, and coordination of admissions and discharges.
Lead initiatives to reduce wait times, improve length of stay, and enhance throughput.
Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, and leadership.
Patient Experience
Lead strategies to improve patient satisfaction and service excellence.
Utilize patient feedback and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Establish accountability for consistent, high-quality patient interactions.
People Leadership
Lead workforce planning, recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies.
Develop leaders and frontline staff through coaching, education, and performance management.
Build a culture of accountability, trust, and professional growth.
Stabilize staffing and reduce turnover through targeted leadership initiatives.
Growth & Strategy
Partner with administrative and physician leadership to expand emergency services and support new site openings.
Identify opportunities for service line growth, innovation, and differentiation.
Support onboarding and development of new graduate nurses within Emergency Services.
Financial Management
Lead departmental budgeting, forecasting, and expense management.
Ensure effective labor management, scheduling, productivity, and premium pay control.
Identify cost-containment opportunities while maintaining quality and access.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum of 3 years of current or recent Emergency Department Director experience
Experience leading Emergency Services in a Level I or Level II trauma environment
Demonstrated success managing high-volume emergency departments
Preferred
Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Experience overseeing multiple emergency departments or freestanding ERs
Strong background in throughput improvement, staff engagement, and operational turnaround
Ability to lead, inspire, and develop teams in high-acuity settings
