is seeking a highly skilled
Head of Model Validation
to lead our enterprise-wide model validation program. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with regulatory guidance (SR 11-7) and maintaining robust model risk management practices. The Head of Model Validation will provide expert insight into validation best practices, execute high-risk validations, and guide junior validators across the bank’s model inventory.
This is a high-impact leadership role offering the opportunity to shape the direction of model risk management at United Community Bank.
What You’ll Do
Serve as the subject matter expert for model validation best practices and regulatory compliance.
Lead and perform independent validations of models, including credit risk, valuation, ALM, fraud, BSA/AML, operations, and marketing models.
Oversee and review work performed by junior and external validators to ensure quality and consistency.
Collaborate with model owners, developers, and stakeholders to provide effective challenge throughout the model lifecycle.
Assist in annual model risk assessments, validation scheduling, and tracking of findings.Review model documentation and prepare model risk-related reports for management.
Stay current on regulatory requirements and industry best practices for model risk management.
Conduct research and maintain expertise in quantitative modeling and validation techniques.
Requirements For Success
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (7+ years highly desirable) in model validation, risk management, or quantitative analysis.
Strong understanding of models used in credit risk, fraud detection, BSA/AML, operations, and treasury.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (advanced required), R, MATLAB, or SQL.
Advanced knowledge of financial modeling, statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI.
Familiarity with regulatory guidance (SR 11-7, OCC Bulletin 2011-12) and compliance requirements.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage complex assignments, and influence stakeholders effectively.
