The Executive Director overall strategic and operational responsibilities for executing the Columbus Sports Council’s (CSC) mission to foster economic development in the City of Columbus through the recruitment and facilitation of local sporting events, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the support of recreational facilities in the community. The Executive Director will have proven visionary and strategic skills, innovative marketing capabilities, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a strong understanding of consensus and relationship building. This is a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all aspects of a non-profit business including strategic, marketing, financial, and administrative leadership

Recruit, attract and support numerous sporting events which yield sports tourism for the community

Serve as human resources manager and provide daily leadership and planning for staff, conduct frequent performance evaluations and manage benefits packages for organization and staff

Responsible for financial planning and fiscal accountability

Conduct daily bookkeeping, including bill payments and deposits with support from the external CPA; approves and oversees event budgets; seeks and manages grant monies, submits financial reports to board of directors, and oversees annual financial audit

Develop, advance, execute and supervise all aspects of many physically demanding sporting events which include making a high degree of daily decision of event operations and lifting moderately heavy event equipment

Execute and coordinate comprehensive company strategic plan and annual working business plans

Represent the organization with political leadership and at community, state, regional and national events, ranging from community service groups to national industry conferences

Oversee the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame golf tournament, induction process and ceremony, and the All-Chattahoochee Valley team awards platform and G.R.I.T. award

Lead event research, bid development and hosting site visits

Direct all marketing efforts to grow and improve public awareness of the CSC and Columbus as a sports destination through community speaking engagements and by overseeing marketing campaigns directed to community sports groups, national event owners and visitors

Create, negotiate, oversee and execute fulfillments of contracts with sponsors, vendors, contractors and more

Conduct corporate sales visits and calls with current and prospective sponsors

Evening meetings, weekend hours and occasional travel required

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong decision-making, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills

Good communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to persuade and negotiate in external and internal forums

Knowledge of special events planning and event coordination/management

Structured and Goal oriented

Highly self-motivated and self-assured with the ability to work independently and managing multiple projects and personalities

Ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers

Adaptable in political environments

Strong interpersonal skills

Proficient in the use of databases, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, social media, QuickBooks

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience in marketing, business management, public relations or a related field

At least 5 years of senior management experience in a business or not-for-profit

Candidate to establish local residency within 90 days of employment
